Description
This print shows the riddle of Nijmegen (Netherlands) also depicted on a painting in the townhall: Huybert the old Man marries for his first wife Anna a widow, having a foreson named Gysbert, and breeds with her his two Sons in red, Adem and Arent; This wife having died, marries for his second wife again a widow named Beel, who had a pre-daughter named Jacomyn, and obtains from her the two Sons in Green, Bartel and Barent. Meanwhile the first wife’s pre-daughter marries the old man’s second wife’s pre-daughter; from which he generates his two youngest Sons in white, named Casper and Coenraat.
