Plate: ‘Un Serurier coupe le pot de chambre pour degager le pied de Ragotin.’ (A locksmith removes a bedpan from Ragotin’s foot). Original Master Print, published ca. 1732-1740. This plate is part of a series: ‘Cycle du Roman comique au chateau de Sans-Souci.’ , based on Paul Scarron: ‘Le Roman comique.’ (1651 et 1657). Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: This plate engraved by Louis de Surugue de Surgis (1686-1762) after J. Dumont. Paul Scarron (1610-1660) was a French poet, dramatist, and novelist.
Condition: Good. General age related toning. Margins slightly browned and light soiling. Small tear right margin not affecting image. Please study scan carefully.
