Selim III

Crayon style lithograph on wove (vellin) paper. Watermark: zie hiernaast.
Sheet size: 35 x 29 cm. (13,8 x 11,4 inch). Image size: 53,5 x 33 cm. (21,1 x 13 inch).

From: ‘Contemporains étrangers ou receuil iconograhique […], Tome 1er.’, a collection of lithographs by M.M. Mauzaisse and Grevedon, published by Quénot, Paris, from 1826. With a blindstamp below image of the printer Charles Motte.

Made by H. Grevedon after own design. Pierre-Louis Grevedon (1776-1860) was a French painter and lithographer. He started as an artist as early as 1789. He studied under Regnault. He later specialised in lithographic portraits. Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse (1784–1844) was a French history and portrait painter and lithographer from Corbeil. Printer: Charles Motte (1785-1836) was one of the early lithographers in Paris, where he started in 1817. He published a vast amount of lithographs, including early work by eugene Delacroix.

Condition: Good, given age. Light foxing. Browning at paper edges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
