Description
‘PIETER RABUS, GEBOREN TE ROTTERDAM (?.) DIE NA HEM LEEVEN.’ (POEM OF THEODOOR VAN SNAKENBURG)’
This print shows a portrait in an oval of Pieter Rabus (1660-1702) who lived in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He was a poet and writer. Outside the oval we see a bird killing a devil and a naked couple hand in hand.
Made by Jacob Houbraken after Johann Friedrich Bodecker after a drawing by Gerard Sanders (see Rijksmuseum).
Etching / engraving on handlaid (verge) paper. Watermark: No.
Sheet size: 21 x 27.3 cm (8.27 x 10.75 inch). Image size: 17.5 x 22.5 cm. (6.89 x 8.86 inch).
Condition: good, given age. In upper and lower margin three spots of remaining paper. On reverse some ink residue. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
