Antique print, titled: ‘Saint Paul.’ – A large portrait of Paul the Apostle (originally Saul of Tarsus), with his attribute: a sword. Published in Paris by Basset. The Basset firm was an important publisher located on rue Saint-Jacques, active from 1700 to 1865. The Basset’s published a variety of prints: from luxurious art prints, optical prints to inexpensive prints, children prints and even wallpaper. They smartly adapted and manoeuvered through changing political times.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Louis-Charles Ruotte’ after ‘Le Barbier aine’. Louis Charles I Ruotte (French. 1754-1806). Jean-Jacques-Francois le Barbier / Lebarbier, the elder (1738-1826) was a French history painter who originated from Rouen.
Condition: Good, given age. Tiny stains in the margins. Some foxing in the lower edge of the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
