BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Published in Amsterdam. Engraved by Jan Jonas Ditmar after a self-portrait by Dionys van Nijmegen dated 1775.

Biography engraver: Jan Jonas Ditmar (1741-1793) was a Dutch engraver and etcher active in Amsterdam. He produced portraits, book illustrations and reproductive prints after works by contemporary Dutch artists. His finely executed portrait engravings are representative of late eighteenth-century Dutch printmaking.
Biography artist: Dionys van Nijmegen (1705-1798) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and decorative artist from Rotterdam. He became known for wall paintings, decorative schemes and portraits. He belonged to a prominent family of artists and remained active throughout most of the eighteenth century.
