Ref: New Hollstein 87.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Hendrik Hondius’ after an anonymous artist. Hendrik Hondius / Hond, ‘the elder’ (1573-1650) was a Dutch designer and engraver from Duffel. He was a pupil of Jan Wierix and Jan Vredeman de Vries. He was a very active printmaker/publishers in the early part of the 17th. Century. He first worked abroad and then settled in The Hague. He mostly engraved portraits.
