Plate: ‘CCXXXVIII Gregorius XV.’ This plate shows the portrait of the 234th Pope Gregory XV (1554 – 1623). Surrounded by allegorical borders with Mother Mary, Saints, Cherubs and other Christian symbols and relics/objects. This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Triomph der Pausen van Roomen over alle hare Benyders ende Bestryders met eene volkomen, ende overtuyghende wederlegginghe van alle de lasteringhen, en valscheden van de sectarisen..’ (Transl.: Victory of the Roman Popes over those who envy and fight them, and a convincing plea against all laster and fraud by the sectarians / sects.) published in Antwerpen, Michiel Knobbaert, by het Prosessen-huys, in S.Peeter, 1678.Artists and Engravers: Author: Cornelius Hazart (1617-1690) was a Dutch Jesuit controversialist, orator, and writer of polemical history. Engraver: Frederik Bouttats, born in Antwerp c. 1620.
Condition: Very good given age. General age related toning. Edges slightly browned. Please study scan carefully.
