Biography engraver: Ambrosius Gabler (1762-1834) was a German copperplate engraver, painter, and scientific illustrator from Nuremberg. Trained under his father Nicolaus Gabler, he became known for his fine stipple and crayon-style portraiture and illustrations, especially in the fields of natural science and physiognomy.
