Biography engraver: Joseph Sebastian Klauber (1710-1768) was a German miniaturist and engraver from Augsburg, primarily known for religious engravings. He was a pupil of Antoine Birckhaert in Prague. His work for Reize rondom de Waereld adapted illustrations from Cook’s voyages for the Dutch edition.
Biography artist: The original drawing was created during Captain Cook’s third voyage (1776-1779), documenting the indigenous people of Alaska and their way of life. The engravings were based on eyewitness sketches made by members of the expedition.
