‘NINON DE LENCLOS.’

– Anne Ninon de l’Enclos (1620-1705) was a French writer, patron to the arts and courtisan to Conde and Gaston de Coligny and others. Seated young woman in elegant dress with lace bodice and ribbons, holding a white hat. Flowers in hair, seated in a garden setting with fountain, rose bush, and classical urn in background. Arch framing the image.

Medium: Lithograph with hand coloring on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 33.4 x 49.4 cm (13.15 x 19.45 inch). Image size: 21.8 x 27.5 cm. (8.58 x 10.83 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing throughout, especially in margins. Colors well preserved. Slight age toning. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Claude Regnier was a French 19th.c. lithographer, active at the Salon in 1847 and 1848. J. Bettannier was a French lithographer.

Biography artist: Pierre Numa was a French 19th.c. genre painter. Printed by Lemercier. The Lemercier firm in Paris was one of the most prominent 19th-century lithographic printers, known for their high-quality colored prints including fashion plates and portraits.
