Medium: Hand-coloured lithograph with tint plate, watercolour and gum heightening on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 44.7 x 42 cm (17.6 x 16.54 inch). Image size: 35 x 25.6 cm. (13.78 x 10.08 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing and light ghosting from previous matting. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From the monumental lithographic series: Egypt and the Holy Land published by F.G. Moon, London, 1847.

Biography engraver: Louis Haghe (1806-1885) was a Belgian-born British lithographer renowned for his reproduction of topographical views, especially his collaboration with artists like David Roberts, where his lithographs showcased his remarkable skills in conveying detailed and accurate renditions of landscapes and architecture.

Biography artist: David Roberts (1796-1864) was a Scottish painter best known for his detailed and dramatic paintings and lithographs of architectural and landscape views of Egypt and the Holy Land. His works, based on extensive travels, brought the ancient Near East to European audiences.
