‘PUGNA MOCHENSIS LUDOUICO REQUESENIO GUBERNATORE.1574.’

– Original antique print showing the Battle of Mookerheide. Spanish Tercios defeated Dutch forces composed of German mercenaries, on 14 April 1574, during the Eighty Years’ War on the heath (heide in modern Dutch) near the village Mook and the river Meuse, not far from Nijmegen in Gelderland.

This rare antique print originates from: ‘Romani e Societate Iesv De bello Belgico.’, published by Franciscus Corbeletti in Rome 1640.

Biography engraver: Johann Wilhelm Baur, Joan Guiliam Bouwer, or Bauer (Strasbourg, 31 May 1607 – Vienna, 1 January 1640) was a German engraver, etcher and miniature painter. He is famous for a series of illustrations of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

Biography artist: Famiano Strada (1572 ? 6 September 1649) was an Italian Jesuit and historian of wars in the low countries (Belgium and Netherlands) during the early part of the Eighty Years’ War, starting with the abdication of Charles V in 1556 to the capture of Rheinsberg in 30 January 1590.
