This original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Trophees tant sacres que profanes du Duche de Brabant …’, by F. Christophre Butkens, published in The Hague by Chretien van Lom, 1724-1726. This is the second and most lavish edition of this work with many copperplate engravings as oposed to the first edition with mostly woodcuts. This is an important work on history and genealogy of the Duchy of Brabant, which covers part of Belgium and the Netherlands. This plate was also published in Jacob le Roy’s ‘Notitia Marchionatis Sacri Romani Imperii.’ in 1678. where the names of the artists were present at bottom.

Made by ‘Richard Collin’ after ‘F. de Wille’. Author: Christophorus Butkens (1591-1650), a Belgian Cisterian Monk born in Antwerp, known for his wealth of historic information but also his many errors in this.
