De verovering van Mackasser – Plate: ‘De verovering van Mackasser.’ (The conquest of Makasser / Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia by the Dutch.) On this panoramic print VOC ships, sloops as well as local boats and canoes. The fortresses Ioupandan and Pannakoke are visible as well. While heavy armed ships are bombarding the main town, other VOC ships are attacking Pannakoke.

Copperplate engraving/etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 31,4 x 25,7 cm. (12,4 x 10,1 inch). Image size: 28,4 x 19,3 cm. (11,2 x 7,6 inch).

From: ‘Wouter Schoutens, Reys-Togten naar en door Oost-Indien …’ (Wouter Schoutens travels into the East Indies), 1775 edition with newly engraved plates, published in Amsterdam.

Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Wouter Schouten’.

Condition: Very good, given age. Original folds as issued General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
