‘MME DE LA VALLIERE’

– Portrait of Francoise-Louise de la Baume Le Blanc, Duchess of La Valliere et Vaujours (1644-1710) was a French noble woman and mistress of King Louis XIV. Seated lady in green and violet court dress with lace collar and jeweled brooch. She holds a small book, rosary and cross, and rests a monastic robe beside her. Background features decorative drapery.

Medium: Lithograph with hand coloring on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 33.4 x 49.4 cm (13.15 x 19.45 inch). Image size: 21.8 x 27.5 cm. (8.58 x 10.83 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing throughout, especially in margins. Colors well preserved. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Claude Regnier was a French 19th.c. lithographer, active at the Salon in 1847 and 1848. J. Bettannier was a French lithographer.

Biography artist: Pierre Numa was a French 19th.c. genre painter. Printed by Lemercier. The Lemercier firm in Paris was one of the most prominent 19th-century lithographic printers, known for their high-quality colored prints including fashion plates and portraits.
