Condition: good, given age. Slight foxing, some creasing and minor stains along edges. Original vertical fold as issued. Additional vertical fold lines. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in Naaukeurige versameling der gedenkwaardigste zee en land-reysen, Leiden, c.1707. Based on earlier engravings from Grandes Viajes, originally published in 1590.

Biography engraver: Jan Goeree (1670-1731) was a Dutch engraver, draughtsman, and author, mainly active in Amsterdam. He was a pupil of Gerard de Lairesse and created detailed historical engravings.

Biography artist: Theodor de Bry (1528-1598) was a Flemish engraver and publisher known for his detailed depictions of early European encounters with Indigenous peoples in the Americas. His work often illustrated colonial travel narratives. Publisher: Pieter van der Aa (1659-1733) was a Dutch publisher and bookseller based in Leiden. He specialized in geography and travel books, producing numerous atlases and city plans. He often republished earlier works, combining original material with reprints from other cartographers.
