Description
The etching depicts a tranquil rural landscape scene. The composition is structured around a central open field, which is surrounded by clusters of trees to the left and the horizon line. The trees are bare, suggesting a scene set in late autumn or winter. Three haystacks are prominently featured in the middle of the field. The sky occupies the upper third of the etching, streaked with horizontal lines that may indicate either clouds or the aftermath of a sunset. The use of light and shadow is subtle, suggesting that the scene is either during twilight or on a cloudy day. The landscape is devoid of any human figures or animals.
