Biography engraver: Robert Bowyer (1758-1834) was a British miniature painter and print publisher. He initially gained recognition for his portrait miniatures, painting the likes of Lord Nelson and the Duke of Rutland. In the 1790s, he shifted to print publishing, producing illustrated works such as an edition of the Bible and Hume’s The History of England. His “Historic Gallery” in Pall Mall displayed commissioned works for these publications. Later in life, he became involved in religious causes and missionary work.
Biography artist: Matthias Gottfried Eichler (1748-1821) was a German draughtsman and engraver. After his education (until 1773), he worked in Switzerland for the first years and decades, then from 1805 until the end of his life in Augsburg. F. B. Lorieux (fl. 1786-1810) was an active engraver in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, contributing to various works of topographical and historical significance. Gerard de la Barthe (1730-1810) was a French draughtsman, etcher and painter who did not create his actual work (mainly paintings of cityscapes) until his advanced life in Russia (from 1787 to 1810). Little is known about his immediate circumstances.
