Plate : ‘Le roi de Brama’. (The king of Brama.) This plate shows the King of Brama / Brahma and an elephant. This original antique print is taken from ‘Histoire des Voyages..’, by Jan van Schley ca. 1750.Artists and Engravers: Jan van Schley, Dutch engraver. Johan Nieuhoff (1618 – 1672) was a Dutch traveler who wrote about his journeys to Brazil, China and India. The most famous of these was a trip of 2,400 km from Canton to Peking in 1655-1657, which enabled him to become an authoritative Western writer on China.
Condition: Excellent. General age related toning. Small tear in the right margin not affecting image. Please study scan carefully.
