Plate 81: ‘De Apostel Joannes uyt het bad Loopende, om dat hy ‘er Cerinthus zag inkomen’ (The Apostle John emerging from the bath as he saw Cerinthus entering). It shows: John fleeing the baths when Cerinthus enters. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C.
