Joan de Wit, Raet Pensionaris van Hollandt – This scarce original antique print shows the portrait of Johan de Witt or Jan de Witt, heer van Zuid- en Noord-Linschoten, Snelrewaard, Hekendorp and IJsselveere (24 September 1625 ? 20 August 1672) was a major figure in Dutch politics in the mid-17th century, when its flourishing sea trade in a period of globalisation made the United Provinces a leading European power during the Dutch Golden Age.

Copperplate engraving/etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 17,5 x 22,1 cm. (6,9 x 8,7 inch). Image size: 15,5 x 20 cm. (6,1 x 7,9 inch).

Made by ‘Christian van Hagen’ after ‘Lambert van den Bosch’. Engraver Christian van Hagens / Hagens (German; active in Amsterdam an leiden 1663-1695). Lambert van den Bosch (1620 – 1698), Dutch author.

Condition: Good, given age. Edges reinforced with acid free archival tape, which can be removed. Some browning in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
