Monsieur de Gassion Mareschal de France – This scarce original antique print depicts a portrait of Jean, comte de Gassion (1609 – 1647), a Gascon military commander for France, prominent at the battle of Rocroi (1643) who reached the rank of Marshal of France at the age of thirty-four. He served Louis XIII and Louis XIV and died of wounds at the siege of Lens.

Published in Paris c. 1650.

Made by Balthasar Moncornet after an anonymous artist. Balthasar Moncornet (c.1600-1668) was a French painter, engraver and print dealer. He is an interesting and talented, but under-appreciated engraver. He is the father of Jean Moncornet.

Condition: Very good, given age. A minor spot lower right. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
