Engraving/etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 10,8 x 13,9 cm. (4,3 x 5,5 inch). Image size: 10,6 x 13,1 cm. (4,2 x 5,2 inch).

Dated 1648.

Made by W. Hollar after H. Holbein. Vaclav Hollar, known in England as Wenceslaus or Wenceslas and in Germany as Wenzel Hollar (1607-1677), was a reknown Bohemian etcher, who lived in England for much of his life. He was born in Prague, and died in London, being buried at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster. His graphic oeuvre is large. Hans Holbein the Younger (ca. 1497-1543) was a reknown German artist. Hed was active as court artist at the English court. He made many portraits, but also designed jewelry and book illustrations.

Condition: Good, given age. Slightly damp stained. A few minor spots. The four corners with minimal paper loss; backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
