This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from the book: ‘Hugo de Groots Nederlandtsche Jaerboeken.’, published in 1681. These portraits are also to be found in othert sources and editions : P.C. Hooft, Bor, or Jean Le Clerc. Published between 1670 and 1730. State: Author: Hugo Grotius (1583- 1645), also known as Huig de Groot, Hugo Grocio or Hugo de Groot, was a jurist in the Dutch Republic. With Francisco de Vitoria and Alberico Gentili he laid the foundations for international law, based on natural law. He was also a philosopher, theologian, Christian apologist, playwright, and poet.
