Antique print, titled: ‘L’Alouate ou Singe Rouge’ – A Howler Monkey (Alouatta), from the seniculus group. These old antique prints originate from: “Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particuliere….”, by de Buffon & Dauberton. Nouvelle Edition, Amsterdam J.H. Schneider, 1755. Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘A.J. Hulk’ after an anonymous artist. Author: Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (September 7, 1707 – April 16, 1788). French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist and author. Buffon’s views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. The engravers in this work are B. de Bakker, C. Brouwer, O. de Vries, C.F. Fritzsch (1719-c.1772), Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816), H. Vinkeles, Abraham Jacobsz Hulk (1751-c.1817), Mittelj, G.S. and Fringham after Jacques de Seve (active 1744-1788), J.N., J. v. Schley and Buvee. This plate engraved by Hulk.

Condition: Excellent, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
