Etching on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 11,2 x 7,9 cm. (4,4 x 3,1 inch). Image size: 10,3 x 7,1 cm. (4,1 x 2,8 inch).

From a series: ‘Diverse dieren …’, first published in 1654 by G. Quineau. State: This is a later ed. on wove paper, c. 1800 Ref: Hollstein Dutch 62

Made by Theodorus van Kessel after Johannes van den Hecke. Theodorus van Kessel (ca. 1620-1693) was a Dutch engraver, who moved to Antwerp in 1652. He also worked for Pieter Paul Rubens. Johannes / Jan van Den Hecke (1620-1684) was a painter-engraver from Oudenaerde, Belgium. He went to Rome, where he was very succesful. He is known for scenes with animals and hunting.

Condition: Very good, given age. Paper at corners a bit thin from previous attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
