Plate 51: ‘Hesychius in ‘t Spinhuys gezet om dat hy zyn krygsdienst neerleyde’ (Hesychius placed in custody in a house of correction for laying down his arms and exiting military service). This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C.
