This print shows hermit saint Thais of Egypt in the hills in front of his cave where a kneeling Maria offers him the cross. A church on the backside and 2 talking monks. Text below in latin. Plate 5 in the series.

Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 18.3 x 15 cm (7.2 x 5.91 inch). Image size: 18 x 14.8 cm. (7.09 x 5.83 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Small margins. Mounted on paper. Remains of paper tape on reverse. Smudges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in “Solitudo sive Vitae Foeminarum Anachoritarum” Paris by Thomas de Leu in 1606.
Biography engraver: Thomas de Leu / Leleu / de Leeuw / Le Loup (Flemish; b. Antwerp; 1560-1612) was active in Paris from 1575 in the workshop of Jean Rahel. He married a daughter of Antoine Caron. He was influenced by the Wierix brothers and was considered one of the most important portrait engravers of his time.
Biography artist: After an engraving by Jan Collaert II (ca. 1561 ? ca. 1620), itself after a design by Maarten de Vos (1532-1603).
