Description
This very rare print shows hermit Arsenius in the hills under a tree reading books. Buildings and three people on the backside. Copy in reverse after engravings by the Sadelers from the series “Sylvae Sacrae Monumenta and Solitudo Sive Vitae Patrum Eremicolarum.” This print is numbered 39.

Medium: Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 23.2 x 16.1 cm (9.13 x 6.34 inch). Image size: 21.7 x 15.5 cm. (8.54 x 6.1 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Paper loss in lower left corner. Remains of paper tape on reverse. . General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published as plates in J.H. HAIN, Allgemeine Christliche Ein?de Das Hayl seiner Seelen Nach dem Exempl der frommen V?ttern, und Einsiedlern (…) (published by Kaspar Wussim, Prague, 1733, 51 plates).
Biography engraver: Daniel Wussim (1626-1691) was an engraver and print- and bookpublisher from Graz who moved to Prague. His sons Kaspar and Johann followed in his footsteps as engravers. His son Kaspar also became a publisher and bookseller.
Biography artist: This print is after Raphael and Johannes Sadeler (1550-1600) and after Maarten de Vos.
