Roma Gypsies on horseback advanced by guards with weapons, some also on horseback. This is a copy in reverse of the original by Callot.
Made by an anonymous engraver after Jacques Callot.
Medium: Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 24 x 13.5 cm (9.45 x 5.31 inch). Image size: 23.5 x 12 cm. (9.25 x 4.72 inch).
Condition: fair, given age. Tears in margin and plate parially backed. In upper and lower margin paper loss. Folds in three corners and horizontal fold. Creases. Brown stain on reverse. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

This attractive print was published after 1621-1631 when the original print was published. Estimate: ca. 1660.
Biography artist: Jacques Callot (French: c.?1592 ? 1635) was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine. He is an important person in the development of the old master print. He made more than 1,400 etchings that chronicled the life of his period, featuring soldiers, clowns, drunkards, Gypsies, beggars, as well as court life. .
