– Bust-length portrait of an elderly bearded man, i.e. its title, a “Grijsaard” (Graybeard), in a cloak, after a painting by Anton Raphael Mengs. Executed in lithography by Guillaume Henri Franquinet and printed by Jean-Claude Chabert.

Medium: Lithography on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 34 x 50 cm (13.39 x 19.69 inch). Image size: 24.5 x 28.5 cm. (9.65 x 11.22 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing and minimal edge wear, overall very strong condition with full margins and excellent tonal range. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Guillaume Henri Franquinet (1785-1854), Belgian painter and lithographer known for classical and historical themes, worked extensively in France and Germany.

Biography artist: Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-1779), German painter in the Neoclassical style, prominent in Rome and Madrid; court painter to Charles III of Spain.
