Antique print, untitled. A wagon with figures, pulled by 2 horses, standing at an Inn ” ‘t Huys te Deyl “, met by an awful, medusa like woman. Location at the border of the 2 towns of Leiden and The Hague. In the background The Hague. Descriptive text (in Dutch) included. From: ‘Batavische Arcadia […]’, by J. van Heemskerk, 8yh ed. published in Leiden by Wed. A. Honkoop en Zoon, and Johannes le Mair, 1765. This pastoral novel was a great success in its Home country. Editing was done by a famous professor of Amsterdam (Caspar Barleus). Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘A. van Laan’ after an anonymous artist. Possibly by Adolf van der Laan (1684-1742) who was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver.
Condition: Very good, given age. Left paper edge a bit irregular from binding. Origeinal vertical folds as issued. Light foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
