Medium: Stipple engraving. on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 16 x 20.5 cm (6.3 x 8.07 inch). Image size: 13 x 20 cm. (5.12 x 7.87 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From ‘The Cabinet of Genius’, published 1787 in London by Taylor.

Biography engraver: Engraved by C. Taylor after S. Shelley. Charles Taylor (1756-1823) was a British (stipple) engraver, also known as a man of letters and biblical scholar. Samuel Shelley (1756-1808) was a London-born artist. He was greatly influenced by Joshua Reynolds, despite being self-taught as a miniaturist.
