BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in 1799.
Biography engraver: John Godefroy (1771-1839) originated from France, but was mostly active in the UK.
Biography artist: Gerard van Spaendonck (Tilburg 1746-1822) was a famous Dutch painter of mostly botanical subject matter. He was the brother of Cornelis van Spaendonck (1756-1840). In 1769 he moved to Paris where he was highly succesful and worked at the court and the Jardin des Plantes. In 1804 he received the Legion d’Honneur and he was ennobled by Napoleon Bonaparte.
