‘Mare Germanicum.’

Coloured engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 20,8 x 31,5 cm. (8,2 x 12,4 inch). Image size: 17,7 x 16,7 cm. (7 x 6,6 inch).

Publishesd in: M. Smallegange – Cronyk van Zeeland, first book, part 3, page 209, Middelburg: 1696. Engraving originates from an older source. An annotation in Dutch above the map states that this part of land belonged to the first count of Flandria, Boudewijn den Yseren. He received it as dowry, as well as his wife Judith, from the king of France Karel den Kaluwen, grandson of Charles the Great.

Condition: Good, given age. Foxing, remains of old tape verso, fold in the top and lower margin (because of previous framing, not affecting the image). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
