Description
This print shows a view inside a country alehouse, a pub. We see a hunter offering a hare to a gentleman sitting at a table. A maid serving the table. Four hounds surround him. A man besides the fireplace holding a girl between his legs. From a series out of two, also with a view outside the alehouse.

Condition: good, given age. Remains of papertape in upper and lower margins. Rubbing in lower margin. Slightly brownish. Tear in left margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This print was originally published in 1794. This is a later 19th.c. photogravure.
Biography engraver: William Ward (1766 – 1826) was the son of James Ward, manager for a fruit and cider merchant. His younger brother, also named James Ward was a painter. Ward held the position of mezzotint engraver to the Duke of York from 1804 and engraver to the Prince of Wales from 1813. The following year he became an Associate Engraver of the Royal Academy.
Biography artist: George Morland (1763-1804) was an English painter. His early work was influenced by Francis Wheatley, but after the 1790s he came into his own style. His best compositions focus on rustic scenes: farms and hunting; smugglers and gypsies; and rich, textured landscapes informed by Dutch Golden Age painting. .
