From: “Galerie du Palais Royal …”, Paris: J. Couche & J. Bouilliard, [n.d., 1786-1808]. This series of plates depict the collection of the Royal Palace in Paris. Each plate is set in a decorative border and accompanied by a descriptive text (by l’Abbe de Fontenal), describing the artist and painting. The author Jacques Couche (1759-1836), was a French engraver, student of Levasseur.
Made by ‘Georges Malbeste and Heinrich Guttenberg’ after ‘Rembrandt van Rhijn’. Heinrich Guttenberg (1749-1818), engraver. Georges Malbeste (1754-1853?).
Condition: Fair, given age. Plate trimmed to image. Staining, mostly visible on rear. Some thin paper spots, mostly at top. Rust stain, with iron particle. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
