Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, with minimal creasing and soiling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Bowyer, Robert (1758-1834). The triumphs of Europe, in the campaigns of the years 1812, 1813, 1814: commemorated by a series of twelve views of Moscow, the Kremlin, Leipsic, Dresden, Berlin, Frankfort on the Maine, Amsterdam, The Hague, Hamburgh, &c. &c. &c. : from original drawings in the collection of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Russia, and from other authentic sources. To which is prefixed, A concise history of those important events. London: Printed by T. Bensley, Bolt Court, Fleet Street, for R. Bowyer, Marlborough Place, Pall Mall, 1814.

This forms the first part of a work of which the second part is An illustrated record of important events, 1812, 1813, 1814, & 1815 (paged continuously with the present work) and the third part is The campaign of Waterloo.

Biography engraver: Robert Bowyer (1758-1834) was a British miniature painter and print publisher. He initially gained recognition for his portrait miniatures, painting the likes of Lord Nelson and the Duke of Rutland. In the 1790s, he shifted to print publishing, producing illustrated works such as an edition of the Bible and Hume’s The History of England. His “Historic Gallery” in Pall Mall displayed commissioned works for these publications. Later in life, he became involved in religious causes and missionary work.
