fol: 778 – In 1676, Michiel de Ruyter took command of a combined Dutch-Spanish fleet to help the Spanish suppress the Messina Revolt and fought a French fleet, under Duquesne, at the Battle of Stromboli and the Battle of Augusta / Agosta, Italy, where he was fatally wounded when a cannonball struck him in the right leg.

From: ‘Leeven en Daaden der Doorluchtigste Zee-helden, beginnende met de Tocht na Damiaten, voorgevallen in den Jare 1217. En eindigende met den beroemden Admirael M.A. de Ruyter’ by Lambert van den Bos(ch), published in Amsterdam 1683.

Made by ‘Herman Padtbrugge’ after ‘Lambert van den Bosch’. Herman Padtbugge or Paddenbrugge, Dutch engraver. Lambert van den Bosch (1620 – 1698), Dutch author.

Condition: Very good, given age. Edges top and right slightly browned. Soft vertical crease from binding General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
