Antique print, titled: ‘Krebsthiere des meeres.’ – 4 species of Crustaceans from the sea: Palaemon serratus (Common Prawn), Platygarcinus pagurus (=Cancer pagurus, brown crab), Leptopus longipes (=Phalangipus longipes) and Homarus vulgaris (European Lobster) “Das Meer” by Matthias Jakob Schleiden. Berlin: A. Sacco, 1867.Artists and Engravers: Author: Matthias Jakob Schleiden (1804-1881) was a German botanist and co-founder of the cell theory, along with Theodor Schwann and Rudolf Virchow. Schleiden was one of the first German biologists to accept Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
