This print originates from Prevost’s ‘Histoire Generale des Voyages’ (Paris 1746-1759).
Made by ‘Jakob van der Schley’ after ‘Johan Nieuhof’. Jakob van der Schley (Amsterdam 1715-1779) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver. He studied under Bernard Picart and became heavily influenced by his style. Johan Nieuhof (1617-1672), wrote a travel journal and made many drawings of Chinese buildings, animals, plants, towns, rivers, landscapes, people and their costumes.
Condition: Very good, given age. Broad margins, solid paper, very good printing, slighly brown on upper-and right side. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
