Medium: crayon style lithograph on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 28 x 20.5 cm (11.02 x 8.07 inch). Image size: 19.8 x 16.7 cm. (7.8 x 6.57 inch).
Condition: very good, given age. As usual with prints printed on this type of paper and age, some scattered foxing, which we can remove on request. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
From: ‘Chateaux et Monumens des Pays Bas Faisant suite au Voyage pittoresque, dedie a S.A.R. la Princesse d’Orange.’, by J.J. de Cloet, published in 34 installments / issues in Brussels from 1825-1830 by J.B.A. Jobard. This series contains 205 plates with views of cities, castles etc. in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands with comprised the Kingdom at the time. This series followed the succes of ‘Vogage Pittoresque …’, published in 1825. Plates by Madou, Kreins, De Pellaert, Pringret, General von der Howen, A. de Marbaix, Lemaitre… One also finds this series bound in 2 volumes, probably at a later date as the printing history of bound volumes is unclear and the plates probably only appeared in installments. At any rate the cost of the individual installments was 4,25 guilders for a total of 144,50 guilders, a fortune at the time.
Biography engraver: Lithographer: C.V. Labarge. According to Van der AA the original drawings were made by Lieutenant-Colonel C. Howen. Artist: Otto Baron de Howen (1774-1848) was born in an influential Russian family. He joined the Russian army but fell out of grace with the court. In 1799 he came to the Netherlands to join the artillery of the Batavian Republic, where he rose to the rank of Luietenant-General. He sometimes used the name Ant(h)on. .
Biography artist: Author: Jean-Joseph de Cloet (1790-1855). Printer/publisher: Jean-Baptiste Ambroise Jobard (active around 1830) was a Belgian lithographer, active in Brussels and Amsterdam. He was the first printer in the Netherlands using lithography in 1817. He collaborated with his brother J.A.M. Jobard.
