Plate : ‘Le Chateau d’Argenteau, tel qu’il est a present …’ (The Castle of Argenteau in 1724, home of Margrave de Laverne, Count of Clairmont etc.). Bird’s eye view of the Castle and gardens. This original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Supplement aux Trophees tant sacres que profanes de Duche de Brabant…’, by F. Christophre Butkens, published in The Hague by Chretien van Lom, 1726. This is part of the second and most lavish edition of this work with many copperplate engravings as oposed to the first edition with mostly woodcuts. This is an important work on history and genealogy of the Duchy of Branbant, which covers part of Belgium and the Netherlands.Artists and Engravers: Author: Christophorus Butkens (1591-1650), a Belgian Cisterian Monk born in Antwerp. Known for it’s wealth of information but also his many blunders.
Condition: Good. General age related toning and soiling. Please study scan carefully.
