BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Naaukeurige versameling der gedenkwaardigste zee en land-reysen na Oost en West-Indien, published by Pieter van der Aa in Leiden, 1707. This work compiled notable sea and land voyages between 1524 and 1526.

Biography engraver: Jan Goeree (1670-1731) was a Dutch engraver, draughtsman, and author, mainly active in Amsterdam. He was a pupil of Gerard de Lairesse and created detailed historical engravings.

Biography artist: Publisher: Pieter van der Aa (1659-1733) was a Dutch publisher and bookseller based in Leiden. He specialized in geography and travel books, producing numerous atlases and city plans. He often republished earlier works, combining original material with reprints from other cartographers.
