Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Grapes (dating ca. 1640).

Condition: very good, given age. Light toning, crease in top margin, minor handling defects, strong impression with full margins. Light foxing, creasing, and soiling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Likely based on Sadeler engraving; published by Pierre Mariette I, Paris ca. 1640. Pierre Mariette I (ca. 1603-1657), a major Parisian print dealer and publisher in the 17th century.

Biography artist: Aegidius Sadeler (ca. 1570-1629) was a Flemish engraver known for detailed portraits and historical scenes; active mainly in Prague and associated with the court of Rudolf II.
