Brilium Holandiae opp. ob intestinum [?..] – This early print shows a bird eyes view on the city of Brielle on the isle of Voorne and the river Maas in the Netherlands, with sailing ships, in front one ship firing a canon towards another ship, lower left fisherman raising their nets with fish, cows and horses in the field, a gallow, mills, in the upper left corner a cartouche with legende of the city, on the reverse text about Brielle in French.

‘Brilium Holandiae opp. ob intestinum [?..]’

Etching / engraving with later hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 52,5 x 40,5 cm. (20,7 x 15,9 inch). Image size: 49 x 35 cm. (19,3 x 13,8 inch).

This plan originates from the famous city Atlas: ‘Civitates Orbis Terrarum’, published in 1575-1612. Ref: van der Krogt/Koeman 643, 1 state of 2.

Made by ‘Franz Hogenberg’ after an anonymous artist.

Condition: Good, given age. Folding as published fold in lower right corner, creasing in other corners. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
