Plate 14: ‘Gradibus prohibitis’. This plate shows allowed vs. Unallowed blood mixes. This very scarse original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Ritualis Ecclesiastici …’ (Rituals from all over the world), by Caspare Calvor, published by Johann Christoph Konig, Jenae, 1705. This work describes religious ceremonies in the world (China, Japan, America, Europe). The engravings show temples, idols, service-dress and costumes during marriage, baptism and funeral ceremonies.Artists and Engravers: The author of this work is the Lutheran German theologist Caspar Calvor (Hildesheim 1650 – 1725 Clausthal). He studied in Jena and Helmstedt. He became a Diakon in Zellerfeld and in 1684 Superintendent and Konsistorialrat. He frequently exchanged letters with important scientists like Leibniz a.o. He educated the young composer G. P. Telemann. The plates in this work are engraved by J.G. Mentiel.

Condition: Fine. General age related toning and occasional light staining as visible on image. Original fold.
