Antique print, titled: ‘Autour brachyptere, male adulte.’ – (Falco brachypterus / Micrastur semitorquatus.) Collared Forest Falcon, male adult, bird of prey native to large parts of south and middle America. This rare plate originates from “Nouveau receuil de planches coloriees d’Oiseaux …”, by C.J. Temminck & Meiffren Laugier de Chartrouse, published in Paris & Amsterdam, 1820-1838-1839. This is Temminck’s monumental work and considered a continuation of the works by Buffon. Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Huet & Pretre’. Author: Coenraad Jacob Temminck (Dutch. 1778-1858) is regarded as one of the foremost ornithologists of his time.
Condition: Very good, given age. Light foxing. Paper edges a bit browned. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
