This attractive print originates from: ‘Traite des arbres fruitiers’, by Langlois, published in Paris from 1807-1835.
Made by ‘Etienne Gabriel Bocourt’ after ‘Pierre Jean Francois Turpin’. Etienne Gabriel Bocourt (1821-1882) was a french printmaker and draughtman. Pierre Jean Francois Turpin (1775-1840) is considered by many as the greatest French botanical painter of his time. His drawings of botanical details have rarely been surpassed. With Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1776 � 1854) he collaborated in some of the most important botanical publications in the early 19th. century. Turpin voyaged extensively in the Carribean and Southern United States. As curator of his Dictionary Turpin had some of the finest engravers work on his plates, which include etchings / engravings and stipple engravings.
Condition: Good, given age. Left margin with some creasing and a tear, backed. Some surface scratching in margins. Image fine. Light foxingLight creasing and soiling. Plate edges with some slight paper separation, from printing. Some staining at top left. Rear more browned. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
